Chloe Moretz may be starring in the next X-Men installment as the telepathic Jean Grey. However, the 17-year-old actress is not without competition. Other considerations for the role include other notable actresses, such as Hailee Steinfeld and Elle Fanning.

Moretz is not the type of actress to be relegated to a damsel-in-distress role. In 2010, she starred as the character Hit Girl in the comic book flick Kick Ass. More recently, she played the lead role of Carrie for the reboot film of the same name. In that role, Moretz unleashes her telekinetic fury to exact revenge on her high school tormenters.

According to X-Men director Bryan Singer, Chloe Moretz is just one of many names that have been thrown around and no official casting has been made at this time

This will mark the third actress to take on the role of Jean Grey. Famke Janssen assumed the role for five of the seven X-Men films, while actress Haley Ramm appeared as a younger version of the character in the film’s third installment.

Of course, if there’s Jean Grey, then her love interest Cyclops is not far behind. The mutant with the gnarly optic eye laser is getting a younger actor as well. So far casting considerations have included Timothee Chalamet, Charlie Rowe, and Ben Hardy. Chalamet has just made a big name for himself with his most recent role as Matthew McConaughey’s son in Interstellar. Rowe is known for his stint on the children’s comedy series Red Band Society, and Hardy stars in the hit British soap opera EastEnders.

The latest installment is titled X-Men: Apocalypse and will be a prequel set in the 1980s. The film will evolve mainly around the villains mystique and Magneto, played respectively by Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender.

If Chloe Moretz does become X-Men’s next Jean Grey, then it will certainly be a huge boost for the already mega successful teenage actress. Aside for her film credentials, Moretz is also a model and has graced the cover of major publications like Marie Claire, Elle, and Vogue.
