Beyonce sang the U.S. national anthem at President Barack Obama’s inauguration on Monday, January 21st. Everyone had expected it to be a live performance, but now there is speculation that Beyonce was lip-synching during it. Beyonce is said to have used a backing track for singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” because she had not had time to rehearse with the band and had had the recording instead. Many people were disappointed with the performance.

Beyonce is apparently disappointed that it has created such a scandal but her publicist refused to comment on the matter. Beyonce is now being compared to Luciano Pavarotti who had lip-synched during his performance at the 2006 Winter Olympics. However, Pavarotti had lip-synched because of poor health and the cold, bitter weather.

Although Beyonce is getting a lot of criticism for the performance, there are many other artists that are coming to her defense. A lot of artists do lip-synch on occasion, so a lot of them are empathetic toward her and the situation that she is in. Jennifer Lopez talked to Jon Stewart, the host of “The Daily Show,” on Tuesday and said that there are artists who have to resort to using tracks because some things just happen. However, when an artist has to do that, they get attacked by the media.

To make matters worse, this was Beyonce first major performance after giving birth in January of 2012. It isn’t the return to the spotlight that she was probably hoping for. The fact that she used a track has not officially been confirmed, and even if she did, she still sang, and she is an amazing singer. She is a Grammy winner after all.

Beyonce will be performing live at the Superbowl halftime show.
