In a recent interview with Los Andes Diario, Guillermo Grispo, the fight choreographer for Batman v Superman, shares details about Batman’s fighting style, his long-held wishes for the character, and how Batman could stand up to the Man of Steel. Thanks to Batman News for the translation.

“There’s a thought that Batman has no chance, that the Superman will squash him like a bug. But when you see the movie, and how it all comes out, there’s a very intelligent explanation as to why they would have a firsthand confrontation, though it seems to be totally to Batman’s disadvantage.”

Grispo has had a long and awesome career as a movie fight choreographer, working on over 30 movies such as Kick-Ass and Wolverine. Batman has always been written as the worlds greatest martial artist, mastered in multiple styles, and has taken his body to peak human fitness. While Batman has always kicked ass in his films, he’s never quite been that skilled. Well, it seems like Grispo wants to bring Batman to the level he should have always been at:

“Now Batman is going to fight the way I’ve always dreamed seeing him fight. He’s a character so prepared in martial arts that you can do a lot of things with him, but filmmakers usually don’t go all the way with it. Even in the last Nolan movies the action scenes aren’t very good from a technical, martial arts point of view to things like choreography, filming, bad camera movements…”

Ouch. He then goes on to compare Zack Snyder’s style as compared to Nolan’s:

“Don’t get me wrong, Nolan is great, my hats off to him… but I think that he did not pay too much attention to the fights. Those are the kind of details that Zack, being so physical himself, loves preparing. I think there’s going to be a big difference when you see these Batman fights in comparison to the previous ones.”

This is all shaping up to be awesome! The cast includes Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor; with Zack Snyder, director of Watchmen and Man of Steel directing, and Chris Terrio, writer of Argo, writing the screenplay.

The film is to be released March 25, 2016.
