Sunday night was the Academy of Country Music Awards and was a huge success this year. It had an average of 15.4 million viewers which is up significantly from last year’s 13.1 viewers, and is the most viewers the award show has had since 1998. There were many things that made last night’s show a success. Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan were the hosts and they worked really well together. They poked more fun at each other than the people in the audience and they seemed to really enjoyed themselves. It was really funny and they had a lot of guy humor and they interacted in a brotherly kind of way. They had a very different dynamic, but it really worked.

There were also several great performances including:

  • legends Garth Brooks and George Strait doing a tribute to Dick Clark
  • Kenny Chesney
  • Tim McGraw with Taylor Swift and Keith Urban
  • Brad Paisley and John Mayer
  • Carrie Underwood
  • Hunter Hayes
  • Eric Church
  • Little Big Town
  • The Band Perry
  • Lady Antebellum
  • Miranda Lambert
  • Blake Shelton
  • Luke Bryan

There seemed to be more performances than awards, but they were all great. The results of the awards were as followed:

  • Vocal Event of the Year: “The Only Way I know” – Jason Aldean with Luke Bryan and Eric Church
  • Video of the Year: “Tornado”- Little Big Town
  • Songwriter of the Year: Dallas Davidson
  • Song of the Year: “Over You” – Miranda Lambert
  • Single Record of the Year: “Over You” – Miranda Lambert
  • Album of the Year: Chief – Eric Church
  • New Artist of the Year: Florida Georgia Line
  • Vocal Group of the Year: Little Big Town
  • Vocal Duo of the Year: Thompson Square
  • Female Vocalist of the Year: Miranda Lambert
  • Male Vocalist of the Year: Jason Aldean

The biggest category of the night was Entertainer of the Year. Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, and Taylor Swift were up for the award. This category was fan voted and when Luke Bryan was announced as the winner he cried, he was so happy.

Overall, it was a great night for Country Music.
