Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Flipboard 0 Text message marketing is the way to go in 2015. Generally speaking, mobile is the future. I always say, go mobile or get left behind. But, what if you’ve already turned to this modern marketing method, and still aren’t seeing results? If it’s text marketing that’s doing you wrong, you might just be making these 6 detrimental mistakes. These errors will quickly ruin your professional image and credibility. 1. You send out offers that have already expired, or just aren’t redeemable. If you’re promoting a limited time offer, make sure these messages are sent out at the right time. Never give out a coupon code that doesn’t work, or has already expired. Also, if you own several brick and mortar locations, and the offer is only valid at one, make sure this is clearly stated in your campaign. Nothing looks worse than having an excited customer enter your store, only to find out the coupon isn’t valid. 2. You promote a misspelled textword. Before you solidify a textword, look it over and make sure everything checks out. If you make one simple error, it will destroy the credibility of your list, and prevent new subscribers from opting in. Also, pick the textword that best fits your business, don’t be too generic or overcomplicate the selection process. 3. You forget to honor your frequency promise. Not only is this unprofessional, it’s also completely illegal. Don’t send one message over your original frequency promise. For example, if you say “Receive up to 4 MSGS a month” and then you send out five, you’re completely breaking their trust and destroying your credibility. In addition to this, you might also find yourself knee deep in hefty legal issues. With that said, always honor the parameters you set for yourself and your text marketing campaigns. 4. You refuse to follow text marketing best practices. There are a set standard of text marketing best practices that all good marketers follow. If you refuse to operate by these guidelines, you’re putting your business and subscribers at risk. 5. You only use your text marketing list for generic announcements. People sign up for your list expecting to get some sort of valuable offer. They don’t want to constantly receive generic announcements or good morning texts. If you don’t offer an incentive for staying on your list, then subscribers will quickly opt out. 6. Prior to launching your first campaign, you don’t educate yourself about text marketing. Your success rate is directly related to the time you spend educating yourself. This is true with everything you do in life, not just text marketing. Before sending out your first text marketing campaign, take time to browse through every educational resource. At Slicktext.com, we offer a handy SMS Marketing Guidebook.
