Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Flipboard 0 When I first started using social media, Twitter in particular, I remember it being taboo to tweet out the same message more than once. Can’t remember where I heard such, but I’ve seen tweets to the contrary of late. If you’re writing your own content or even paying someone to write it, you want it to be read by as many people as possible. Let’s face it, everybody is not on Twitter or LinkedIn at the same time so the likelihood of everyone on your list seeing your message isn’t likely. There are a few people on my Twitter feed who do post the same message daily and I seem to always catch it. Go figure! However there is a way to repurpose your content and give it a fresh spin and reach more readers. Syndication sites Not to be confused with sites that steal your content and post without your permission, syndication sites allow you to post original content or previous posts from your blog. However, there are some pros and cons to repurposing content on syndication sites. The cons. You could drive traffic away from your own site if more people are reading your content on their site. So you want to make sure you include a link back to the original article if possible and maybe add a different intro to the syndicated site’s version. If it’s feasible, add links back to your own blog within the content of the syndicated article. Google and other search engines don’t like duplicate content and they’re going to send readers to the most popular site. It would be nice if syndicated sites opted to use a noindex meta tag so their version of your work doesn’t show up in search engines but that’s part of the reason syndicated sites exist in the first place. They want the traffic too. So use syndication sites carefully. My favorites? Business 2 Community and Project Eve. Other syndication sites you may want to consider are: Social Media Today, Explore B2B, and Health Works Collective. There are other syndication sites that cater to specific industries…a simple online search should connect you. The pros. The added exposure is nice. The two syndication sites I work with are good about promoting your work via their social media sites. I’ve even gained new Twitter followers thanks to these sites. Another way to repurpose your content is to pull great quotes from your blog and post with a link back to the original blog. You don’t offend readers with the exact same message and you’re teasing with great content. Give older content a new life by repurposing and introduce new members of your audience to valuable information.
