Today’s digital age is all about content.

In fact, over 4.4 million blog posts are published every day.

You can build a killer SEO strategy to bring your content to the top of Google, but how will you keep your audience interested in your blog post for more than 5 seconds?

Be relatable.

In an advertising campaign study, USC found that 31% of ads that lead with emotion were successful compared to the 11% of ads that lead with logic.

While this study was done on advertising, you can use this to leverage your content strategy.

What Does It Mean to, “Be Relatable”?

Relating to your audience means telling them that you understand how they feel and that you want to help them. Basically, you want to connect with your readers on an emotional level.

Think of a time when you read a piece of content that described your situation perfectly. How did you react? Did you feel a connection?

Give your readers the same feeling when they read your content.

There are three ways to make your content relatable:

  1. Know Your Audience
  2. Create a Story
  3. Be Authentic

1. Know Your Audience

In order to be relatable, you have to know who you are going to relate to.

Understand your audience by recognizing your motives.

What are your business’ values? In what way will those values help others?

Once you’ve clarified your goals, think about who would be the most interested in your business.

How old is your audience? What career do they have? What can you offer to make their lives better?

You can get as detailed as you want during this step, but the point is to have a deep understanding of who your content will connect with.

2. Create a Story

Humans crave stories. They’re familiar to us and make concepts easier to understand and yes, relate to.

Think about the purpose of your blog post. How can you convert that purpose into a well-crafted story?

What emotions and values can you pour into your story? What is going to make your readers feel like you understand where they’re coming from?

Intertwine your business’ values and your audience’s needs together to show them that you will help them in a way that no one else can.

3. Be Authentic

Being relatable with someone means to be real. To be real is to be vulnerable.

The best way to create relatable content is to open up to your readers. Let your truth shine. Your readers didn’t come to your post looking for cliché advice, they came for your insight.

The best way to be authentic is to use your own experiences and emotions to shape your writing. It’s easy to look at other people’s content and create something similar to it, but that isn’t going to bring major success.

Your individual perspective will inspire your readers to take action in ways they would’ve never thought of if they hadn’t read your post.

Give your readers something to grasp onto.

To Sum Up

There are many things you can do to create clickable content, but how you get readers to stay is what’s most important in the long run.

Relate to your readers by understanding who they are, creating epic stories, and, as you’ve heard many times before, being yourself.

On to you!
