You have 8 seconds to grab your reader’s attention and keep them on your site. Just 8 seconds. That’s the average amount of time it took you to read these three sentences.

Just 8 seconds.

Keeping your readers engaged at your site is a never-ending task. The web is full of fly-by readers that read your headline, check out your image, and then move to the next article. (I’m guilty of that sometimes myself.)
So, what can you do to keep your readers engaged and reading your content.

First, a couple fun facts from StatsticBrain.com
– The average attention span of a person in the year 2000, 12 seconds.
– The average attention span of a goldfish, 9 seconds.
– The average attention span of your reader today, just 8 seconds.

Use Catchy Headlines
While you are developing your post and title, work in a catchy phrase or headline. Something that makes your reader click on the link to get to your site. Use active words like enhance, promote, and engage. You headlines should pop out and entice your reader to want to read more. If you are writing an article about attracting visitors to your site, don’t use “How to Attract Visitors to Your Site.” Use an enticing headline like “How to Attract Visitors and Keep Them Coming Back For More.”

Entice Your Readers with Shiny Objects
Use images in your posts. We all know that consumers (and readers) make decisions based on eye appeal. If you don’t want to put images in your blog post, then at least use them in the Feature Image spot with your post. This will place a clickable image on your site that visitors can click on to get to your post.

Solve Their Problem
Offer a solution to your reader’s problems. Think of the questions that your readers may have and offer a solution. Do you remember what it was like when you started your online business or blog? What problems did you run into and how did you solve them? If you had this particular problem, you know that others will too. Help them out by giving them answers to their questions.

Write Like You Are Talking To a Friend
Keep you voice as if you are talking to one of your friends. Don’t get too technical. Keep you writing easy to read and easy to understand. Don’t throw in a bunch of technical jargon just to make yourself look smart. Giving your readers a solution that they understand and can use in their world, is what will make you a super-star.

For those of you that have finished this article, I hope these tips will help you keep visitors coming to your site. By making, a few changes in the presentation of your article and in the wording of your headline, can entice more readers to come to your site.
