For the past eight years, Chili’s Grill and Bar Restaurant hasheld an annual fundraising campaign for childhood cancer. This year, however, they incorporated QR codes into their campaign, resulting in291,000 scans and more than $5 million in donations raised for St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Mobile Commerce Daily explains,“Chili’s in Dallas, Texas ran a “Create-A-Pepper” campaignduring National Childhood Cancer Awareness month in September. QRcodes appeared on marketing materials placed on tables and around therestaurant displaying a thank you from a St. Jude patient to all ofthe guests supporting the campaign. A separate QR code was placed onCreate-A-Pepper coloring sheets that linked directly to thecampaign’s website as an easy way for guests to donate via theirsmartphones.”
Mobile technology, including QR codes, has become anever-present feature in our lives and it’s interesting to see howmore and more businesses are not only embracing it, but using it innew and exciting ways, including raising awareness for worthy causeslike childhood cancer.
