Q: I am moving my business to a new office. What can I do to get the word out?
A: Congrats! Relocating to a new office usually means the business is growing and things are going well. Moving to a new office is a great opportunity for some quality PR. It also gives you an excuse to reach back out to some long, lost contacts and get the conversation started again.
But what should you do? Easy. It starts on social, and ends on social.
The entire process – start to finish – should be documented on social media. Your fans will appreciate the updates, your competition will be green with envy and your prospects will view you as an authority – because they’ll see you moving up in the world. To capitalize on this opportunity, you need to use a little bit of strategy.
Instagram: Pictures speak a thousand words. We know it. We love it. During the entire relocation process, Instagram is probably the most powerful tool your team could use. Document the move with before and after pictures, snap pictures when you take a trip down memory lane of the fun things you find during packing and take shots of the funny bloopers that happen along the way.
Vine: It may only lasts for six seconds, but what a fun six seconds it is. Vine is a great tool to give people sneak peaks of the new space and a behind the scenes look into any hijinks that happen.
Twitter: The purest update tool available, tweet your way through the move. Give followers updates throughout the move. Also, research which of your new neighbors are on Twitter and give them a shout out. It can strike up a conversation which could lead to new business for you.
Facebook: For most businesses, Facebook is the ‘hub’ of their social media efforts. Most likely, the Instagrams, Vines and Tweets (In some capacity, at least) will end up on Facebook. But there is more you can do. Run a contest related to the move, share a photo album, and – if you’re adventurous – throw a party and make a Facebook event to promote your shindig.
This is only a snapshot of the many things you can do on social media to promote your move. Get creative with it! Remember, strategy should always drive your social media efforts. If you need some guidance on strategy, contact an agency or digital media professional. (Note: Stay away from anyone with the title ‘guru’, ‘rockstar’, or ‘ninja’. It’s for your own good.)
So there it is. Now, I want to hear from you. Have you moved recently? What social media efforts did you use? For everyone else, what other things could you do on social media to promote your relocation?
