The next pair to enter the tank is Craig Beinecke and Adam Cookson of TekDry, seeking $500,000 for five percent equity.

TekDry is a service that saves technology damaged by water. Rather than sticking your phone into a bowl of rice, TekDry dries the phone, in addition to restoring any possible lost data, photos and apps, according to their website. The process can take as little as 30 minutes and their patented technology “uses a combination of low-pressure, controlled heat and proprietary beads to create a safe environment to remove 100% of the moisture from your wet device.” The service costs $39.99 for small devices, $69.99 for medium, like a smartphone, and $99.99 for large. In addition to their 82 in-store services, they also offer a mail-in service for devices that have gotten wet within the last 24 hours.

Their scientific solution saves devices with a warm, gentle heat and metallic beads. They have sold $29,000 in the last year within a few stores, then launching an expansion that could lead to $600,000 this year. In the beginning, it cost $8,000 to produce the machine, but they have gotten the number down to under $3,000. They have raised millions of dollars already.

Lori Greiner sees their potential online, as does Robert Herjavec. He doesn’t like that they want to head to retail, however, and goes out, as does Greiner. Barbara Corcoran thinks technology advancements, like water-resistant phones, could set them back and goes out.

Mark Cuban likes the idea but doesn’t know how he would get his money back. He goes out. Kevin O’Leary thinks their valuation is too high, but offers $500,000 as a loan at 13 percent to be paid back in 36 months, then dropping to five percent equity.

Social Media Reacts to TekDry’s Appearance on “Shark Tank”

Each week on “Shark Tank,” budding entrepreneurs have the opportunity to pitch their emerging business to six multi-millionaire and billionaire investors, known as sharks: Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks; Daymond John, fashion mogul and founder of FUBU; Kevin O’Leary, self-proclaimed Mr. Wonderful and founder of O’Leary Financial Group; Barbara Corcoran, real estate maven; Lori Greiner, queen of QVC; and Robert Herjavec, technology guru and founder/CEO of the Herjavec Group. Venture capitalist Chris Sacca is also slated to appear as a guest shark this season.

“Shark Tank,” which is based on “Dragons’ Den,” is produced by Mark Burnett and first debuted in 2009. To date, the sharks have invested more than $87 million in various companies after engaging in numerous bidding wars and shark fights. A new episode airs each Friday at 9 p.m. on ABC.
