It’s not easy being Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year. The color management company recently named “Greenery” as the new “it” color for the upcoming year, explaining that it is “symbolic of new beginnings.”

According to Pantone, “Greenery is nature’s neutral. The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily lives through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices globally. A constant on the periphery, Greenery is now being pulled to the forefront – it is an omnipresent hue around the world.”

The color, which reflects future home decor and fashion trends is described by Pantone Color Institute’s Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman as providing people “with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment,” which is meant to be a snapshot of what is currently happening in our world.

Previous Colors of the Year include rose quartz and serenity, marsala, orchid, mimosa and blue iris. The last time a variation of green was named Color of the Year was in 2013 when emerald had the distinction of being described as “lively, radiant and lush.”

So if you weren’t already wishing for springtime, “greenery” is sure to leave you longing for those vibrant and rejuvenating days.
