This week, Tilman Fertitta meets with Gini, Dora and Claudia Garcia of Garcia Art Glass.
Garcia Art Glass provides unique hand-blown art pieces. Their website describes these “magical and meaningful masterpieces” as including bowls, candle holders, flowers, drinkware, and more. They have created work for homes, businesses, hospitality, and special awards. However, the owner must be able to separate herself from her creations to make a profit. Their pieces “always enhance their surroundings while inspiring wonder and amazement.”
Fertitta thinks their designs are beautiful but is worried that they lost nearly $17,000 last year. They have been in the negative three years in a row now. Many of the art pieces are just not selling and Fertitta encourages them to get rid of their inventory in order to make more money. He likes the business though and challenges them to make five candle holders with different designs to match the concept at a Chart House location.
Ultimately, they made 12 art pieces, none of which fits the earth tones and neutral colors he asked for in the photo example provided. They offer to change it to meet their needs but Fertitta is still not impressed with the price at $68 per piece. He encourages them to figure it out before their next meeting. Next, they set up a pop-up store in an attempt to make some money. Gini, however, still struggles to let go of her artwork after one of her most prized pieces, a rooster, sells for $600 (originally $1,300). He applauds the fact that she can use her creativity to recreate it in the future and appreciates their efforts to move inventory.
In the boardroom, they present their new designs, which Fertitta finds much more fitting. They propose 2,000 holders for all of the Chart House locations at $50 per piece, totaling $100,000. He struggles with the price but they ultimately convince him to accept and he even offers to buy additional pieces for five Mastro’s locations at $20,000 each, totaling $200,000.

According to CNBC, the reality television show “introduces promising companies across the country to one of America’s most successful businessmen: billionaire hospitality mogul Tilman Fertitta, Chairman, CEO, and sole shareholder of Landry’s, Inc.” Featured entrepreneurs present their small business to Fertitta in the hopes that he will place a large purchase order. But before they make their pitch, they must prove to the hospitality mogul that their product is worth it through challenges and customer feedback.
