Ariana Grande is back with an all-new single. The singer dropped her upbeat song “No Tears Left To Cry” on Thursday night—and fans are loving her new sound.
Grande teased her new single in the days before it came out. On Tuesday, after taking a break from social media for months, the 24-year-old singer tweeted, “missed you,” along with a teardrop emoji and the song’s title upside down. She also shared a photo showing her new hairstyle, which made fans go wild. The single dropped at midnight, and the official video followed shortly after. The eye-catching music video has already received over 4.5 million views as of this writing.
The song is the first Grande has released since the Manchester Arena bombing that left 22 concertgoers dead, according to People. The song, which was reportedly inspired by the tragic event in May 2017, features the uplifting lyrics, “Right now, I’m in a state of mind/I wanna be in, like, all the time/Ain’t got no tears left to cry/So I’m pickin’ it up, pickin’ it up (oh yeah)/I’m lovin’, I’m livin’, I’m pickin’ it up/Oh, I just want you to come with me/We on another mentality/Ain’t got no tears left to cry/So I’m pickin’ it up, pickin’ it up/I’m lovin’, I’m livin’, I’m pickin’ it up/So I’m pickin’ it up, pickin’ it up/I’m lovin’, I’m livin’, I’m pickin’ it up (oh, yeah).”
In their review, Variety describes the song “as the breeziest, most danceable kind of post-traumatic recovery anthem with dark undertones. It works, on that modest I-will-survive level, although if Grande really wants to be seen as growing as an artist, it’ll probably be a good thing if at least one or two other tracks on her upcoming album convince us that she still has it in her… some vestigial crying, that is.” Grande confirmed she was working on her fourth studio album in December. Her last album “Dangerous Woman” debuted in 2016.
