Sixth time’s the charm! Leonardo DiCaprio has finally landed the long-anticipated Oscar! He won Best Actor for his role in The Revenant. Leo plays Hugh Glass, a real-life fur trader who lived on the wild frontier of the Upper Missouri River. The frontiersman survives a bear attack, is abandoned by his party, and must find his way back to civilization through two hundred miles of wilderness without weapons or supplies. If Leonardo DiCaprio had to use a line from his winning role to describe the moment of his Oscar win, he might use this one: “He knows how far I came to find him.” He has traveled quite the winding road before finally earning his award. Let’s look at the five best lines of his career.

“I’m the king of the world!”

In Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio plays Jack Dawson, a poor man who wins tickets for a trip aboard the doomed ship in a poker game. Having never seen such luxury, Leonardo’s character shouts this famous line while he stands at the bow of the magnificent vessel. The American Film Institute recognized this line as one of the top one hundred movie quotations in its hundred-year history. And what’s even more remarkable is that Leo ad-libbed this line.

“Two little mice fell in a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned. The second mouse wouldn’t quit. He struggled so hard that eventually he churned that cream into butter and crawled out. Gentlemen, as of this moment, I am that second mouse.”

Did this quote inspire Leo? It’s from Catch Me If You Can, a 2002 movie that chronicles the true story of teenage conman Frank Abagnale Jr., who absconded with a couple of million dollars before his capture.

Leonardo plays two roles in The Man in the Iron Mask. He is tyrannical King Louis XIV of France and the king’s twin brother, Philippe. Wanting no rivalry, King Louis imprisons his twin and forces him to wear an iron mask to hide his true identity. After six years, Philippe admits,

“I’ve worn that mask so long I don’t feel safe without it.”

Is this how Leonardo felt when he learned of his sixth Oscar nomination?

Have you wished for Leonardo to win an Oscar each year? You are not the only one! He reveals how insistent desires are in Inception:

“What is the most resilient parasite? Bacteria? A virus? An intestinal worm? An idea. Resilient, highly contagious. Once an idea has taken hold of the brain, it’s almost impossible to eradicate.”

In Marvin’s Room, Leonardo plays Hank, a reclusive youth who finds himself in a mental institution after he commits an act of arson:

“Most of the time, I just keep to myself. I think like what it would be like to be . . . someone else.”

Finally, after six tries, DiCaprio no longer has to wonder what it’s like to be an Oscar winner. He has delivered some great lines in his career and these, combined with his acting chops, have yielded a shiny gold trophy. Congratulations, Leo, you deserve it!
