What is Branding?

Marketing is all around us. From billboards to TV ads, it has taken over the modern world. Marketing is also the same thing that can either make the product a huge hit or an even bigger flop. Consumer marketing is all about identifying your target market and influencing them in such a way that they feel compelled to buy your brand. By definition, a brand is a particular product that a company sells to consumers. A brand usually has a name, logo, and a slogan that customers identify with. These characteristics of the brand are typically used to distinguish it from other products in the market that have a similar purpose or offer a similar service. The practice of branding is all about encouraging and making consumers remember the name, logo, or slogan of that particular brand. This is done so that consumers acknowledge your product as a possible solution to their problem, and so that they recognize the product or service for what it offers.

Common Branding Mistakes

Getting your target consumer market to do that exactly, however, is a tough task. There are a lot of experienced marketers out there who can offer advice on good marketing techniques for branding. However, at the end of the day, no professional can tell you whether your brand will be successful or not; it all depends on the customers. Regardless of that, there are several branding techniques that you can try applying to your brand. At the same time, there are certain branding mistakes that you should avoid making in all cases; some of which are:

1.Inconsistency: Most brands out there who have failed have done this at one point or another. When you award your brand with a name, a logo, and a slogan, you should stick with it. However, that isn’t to say that you’ll never, ever get a change it. Thriving companies like Coca Cola change their slogans occasionally; however they did after everyone was completely familiar with their product.

2.Unappealing or boring brand: The hard part of any task is always the creative part. Most of the times, customers only buy certain brands. Why? Because those other brands had catchy slogans and easy to remember logos and names. Slogans shouldn’t be too long or dull, logos should be mostly visuals, and name shouldn’t be too complicated or hard to pronounce. Also try attaching an addictive jingle to your brand.

3.Making believable advertisements: When you decide to bombard consumers with a message that portrays your product in a certain light, make sure you follow through with it. If you are tell customers your brand is affordable, make sure that is actually is.
