What is personal branding and why is it important?

When someone mentions branding you most likely think about some of your favorite companies that you frequently buy from or companies that you see commercials for on TV. It is true that a company’s branding is a key component in its success. Their branding is what makes them memorable and helps create an emotional connection with their customers.

As a designer, I’ve become more aware of how important it is to include elements throughout designs that create a humanizing effect. When people feel that they can connect to something personally or emotionally they are more likely to trust it. The easiest and most impactful way to add that humanizing element is to highlight the people behind your brand. That’s right, touching on the personal brand of your employees can increase someone’s trust in your entire company!

Personal branding is what makes a person unique. It is who you are as a person, your beliefs and the driving factor behind the things you do. Your strengths and what you stand for are what make you different from everyone else around you and your personal brand needs to highlight that.

Building your personal brand is a journey, and it takes time and effort to put something together that truly represents YOU. Personally, I felt a bit unsure of myself all throughout college and the beginning of my career here at Keystone Click. I knew I was a designer, but what made me different from my peers? It wasn’t until I joined up with Lori and Stacy Kaat over a year ago to create a presentation on personal branding that things really began to click for me. Personal branding is all about focusing on what makes you the best at what you do, and not comparing yourself to others in your industry.
