What is your view of blogging?
- Do you read the latest statistics and believe blogging is dead!
- Do you look at blogging as too much work!
- Do you see blogging as a waste of time!
Let me offer one other you another opinion.
I believe blogging transcends communication to a new level.
Think of Blogging as “the 21st century conversation”
The benefits of this conversation are many:
Personal – The message is targeted to a specific group of clients and new clients who have an interest in your company’s products or services. You can expound a little more about your expertise.
Control – You as the blog writer are in control of your subject matter. You can talk about the specifics as an expert. You control your own content.
Create Advocates – Through the use of social media, in a matter of minutes, you can place your story in the hands of your readers and followers on social media platforms like twittter, facebook, google+ and others. Other people will give you instant feedback and decide if your story warrants further discussion or not.
Search Traffic – By creating updated content, your presence online will improve immensely and your conversation never gets old, it is recorded forever. Some conversation mediums are a one and done moment like a radio or television ad. Through search, your topic remains alive.
Blogging is a lot of work and it isn’t for everyone. I have written blog posts for over two years and the payoff has been phenomenal. I see it in the comments left on my posts as well as comments/questions that come in by phone or email to our client services staff. It is exciting to hear about new clients who found our information online as the result of information posted from our blog site.
My point here is that it is easy to listen to the noise that blogging is dead and that it is a waste of time. It is only a waste of time, if you cannot see the whole picture. Once you see the whole picture as outlined by the benefits, you will see that it is the real difference and it is a conversation that is indeed ahead of its time.
In my view, blogging has not yet taken communication to a new level, but my hope is that it will. The search engines have not learned to recognize high-quality content. Until they do, we shall have to put up with the dilution of quality that has been characteristic of blogging up to this point. The world of publishing and communications is in flux, and bloggers are fully involved and engaged in the transformation. The change is exciting, but also frustrating for those of us who would like to see high-quality writing (and thinking) rise to the top. Thanks for the insights!

How long have you been blogging?
I am seeing a lot of great traffic. I have only had this blog online for 6 months and I have seen it move to the top in a number of categories. A lot of that traffic is the result of changes Google has made with respect to social search. I want people to find my blog more than my page on Google+. With fresh content and more impressions like this site and other social media platforms I think I will get there.
Check out the dialogue that occurred on Google+ yesterday with respect to this post. You will see a lot of comments from some well-known people in blogging regarding this topic. You may have to scroll down a bit.

I think people who experience success with blogs are the minority. But those who have found success really understand how powerful this medium is.

I blog just for fun and as a way to express my frustrations. My latest blog post is about my husband (who is a marketing/creative guy)and the junk that his clients are doing to him that makes him crazy. I’m always amazed at:
1. the number of people out there who are blogging
2. the number of pretty darn good writers there are out there
3. the number of idiots who read your blog but don’t make a comment (would you visit someone’s house and pretend you’re not there?)
4. the number of people who actually think they can make a living with their blog
You are right that blogging can be a lot of work. But some of it depends on the purpose of your blog. I’m just sayin……

It is all about your purpose when you are blogging. I post on a corporate blog site, http://blogmidwestlabs.com and from a marketing perspective: http://marketingdirectorblog.com
I think blogging is rewarding, a lot of work and a lot of fun. The best part is that the content is always out there.
I like your comment regarding people who read but don’t leave comments. That is funny!
I appreciate your comments and I am glad you took the time to share them.
