Movies give us the opportunity to long for cars that we will more than likely never have. Over the years, we have been introduced to some of the coolest cars imaginable. From talking cars, to those with the power to travel to the future, or even ones that fly, they’re constantly coming up with more creative ways to showcase vehicles.

The DeLorean Time Machine is a time traveling DeLorean that was featured in Back to the Future I, II, and III. The car was a 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 and there were 7 of these cars used in the films and only 3 have survived. Only one was sold in private hands at auction for $541,000. However, the total costs for the 7 DeLoreans and completed prop work was around $150,000. The time machine car could reach 60 miles per hour in just 8.8 seconds and included a Flux Capacitor and digital time screen. The Hollywood enhancements included advanced artifical intelligence, near indestructible molecular bonded shell, and DeLorean time machine specifications.

The “Tumbler” was a hit in the Batman films and was a 2005 custom made vehicle. While the total costs for the original Tumbler for Batman Begins was only $250,000, a custom/handmade version is listed for sale at $2,322,900 and takes 6-8 months to build. It only takes this vehicle 5 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour and includes 30 inch extendable front suspensions for absorbing up to 30 foot jumps without damage. The Hollywood enhancements include a jet burner capable of launching the car, front firing machine guns, and backend flaps and landing hooks for quick stops.

Then we have “Kitt”, the talking 1982 Pontiac Trans-Am from the hit TV show, Knight Rider, which was driven by David Hasselhoff. Four Trans-Ams were used during the filming and 1 of the 4 original Kitts was listed on eBay in 2011 with a starting bid of $150,000. The Trans-Am can reach 60 miles per hour in 10 seconds and has 145 horsepower. Kitt includes 2 video screens on the dashboard and unfortunately non-functional “eject” and “oil slick” buttons. The car included a flashing red light on the hood of the car with advanced artificial intelligence.

While we dream of having cars such as these, Hollywood really brings them to life. Check out the infographic below presented by autoinsurance.us to learn more about the coolest cars in Hollywood.
