There are a number of reports that indicate CEOs and Top Management are behind with respect to getting on board with social networks.

Check out this report from Reuters, “Fortune 500 executives behind on social networking

  • I think there are some good reasons for this.
  • Many CEOs want to stay out of the public eye.
  • It requires a little transparency

Working with social media requires a time commitment

On the other side, these same individuals maybe missing out on some of the benefits:

Connecting directly with key people

Listening to competing companies

Listening to client’s wants and needs.

I came across this report in Business Week, 2009 – CEOs who use Twitter

Check out these early adopters on Twitter

These are actual CEOs who talk about their experience.

Remember, this article is three years old. There are a number of CEOs who have continued to use Twitter on a daily basis and there are some that have fallen off. I think it is interesting to also look at how the companies are performing.

When I looked at this report I looked at the following:

How has Twitter helped their business?

What type of people do these CEOs follow?

Check and see if these people are still active on Twitter.

It’s a great exercise and some good information to bookmark and refer to when you are having tough days or questioning your work on social media and twitter in particular.

What information struck you as you looked at these reports? Does your CEO Tweet? Is your company effectively using social media as a marketing platform?
