The #NewTwitter Has Arrived!

The #NewTwitter Has Arrived! image all profiledisplay 460px

The new Twitter is here! Starting today you can make your online presence “more meaningful” with their new profile feature. Similar to facebook’s cover photo, simply upload your header image on your mobile app (iPad, iPhone, and Android – or just head to your design settings on twitter.com) to have displayed alongside your tweets from here on in.

With the ongoing competition to be your online home base, twitter has seemingly trumped facebook with their stunning iPad update. Another big change you will notice is that they have removed support for third-party image hosts, such as Twitpic and yfrog. But being ad based company, it’s wise for them to keep this feature close to home and take more control of the user experience.

What does this mean for businesses? Boosted Engagement. Every day consumers visit your page, this feature ensures that profile pages a key part of your brand’s online presence.

A breakdown of new features for brands:

Profile header photo: All Twitter users can feature a new header photo on their profile pages that will appear across mobile and desktop. Simply upload a custom image or select a pre-loaded theme in the design tab within your settings page. For advertising partners with an enhanced profile page (EPP), this new header image replaces the EPP banner. However, these advertisers will still be able to pin Tweets at the top of their timelines to spotlight their most important or timely content.

Background image: Twitter users now have more control of the creative elements within the background image on their profile page. The new design gives marketers the flexibility to align the image and, therefore, use both left and right side of the background image to display rich, engaging content. The photos module on the profile page has also been enhanced to show the most recent six images a user has shared.

Pinned tweet: Display the most important content on your profile. Select any of your Tweets to pin to the top of your profile timeline. Manage your pinned Tweets from the advertiser campaign dashboard. If you select more than one Tweet to pin, they will display the most popular Tweet.
