I agree if you want people to listen you on twitter you have to post relevant content, share interesting things and not just post nonsense. I like to ask questions that I know my followers will be interested in to get them engaged with me. Works a treat. I can see your point. Ordinary Twitter people will more likely follow other people if they have tons of followers (and if they are of the non-celebrity type). This is so that they can actually interact with their followers and to the people they follow, and not get their tweets ignored.
