Macy’s Brings Fun and Fashion Together for Kids This Back to School Season

Macy’s recently announced a series of unique special events and promotions to secure its place as the national back to school headquarters. Showcasing the latest trends, affordable brands and engaging educational activities, kids of all ages will go back to school in style and ready to learn. From KIDZ BOP sing-alongs to Spelling Bee competitions, families can visit their local Macy’s this back to school season and rediscover the magic of being a kid.

Martine Reardon, EVP of Marketing for Macy’s said, “Our goal for back to school is to create an environment where moms and kids can have fun together as they prep for a new school year. Parents naturally shop our stores for fashionable, affordable school wardrobes for their kids. Our task is to make the experience easy, enjoyable and entertaining, so we continue to layer on new elements that offer education and interactivity.”

3 Fun Family Events at Macy’s This Back to School Season

  1. KIDZ BOP – Macy’s and KIDZ BOP, the #1 music brand for kids ages 5-12 in the U.S., are teaming up this year for a rockin’ back-to-school promotion. The KIDZ BOP Kids are starring in Macy’s TV and print advertising campaign, and the TV commercial features a song from KIDZ BOP 18.
  2. Reading is Fundamental – Macy’s and Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) are partnering again this year to host the fourth annual Book A Brighter Future campaign.
  3. Macy’s 5TH Annual Spelling Bee – Kids will have the chance to spell the day away at a local Macy’s Spelling Bee competition. The annual Spelling Bees will take place in 30 cities beginning August 7 with a grand finale in Macy’s Herald Square in NYC on September 26.

What’s New at Macy’s This Back to School Season

From the runway to the closet, Macy’s continues to offer the hottest trends from celebrity designers to updated essentials including new exclusive collections like:

  • Glee: “Gleeks” will be singing for joy this August, as “Glee”-branded tees and hoodies are sold exclusively at Macy’s stores nationwide.
  • Slade Wilder: A collection of cool and easy clothing for young men, Slade Wilder encompasses everything an all-American guy would want in his closet.
  • American Rag and the Madden’s “Mad Picks”: American Rag juniors are being rocked by Benji and Joel Madden this back-to-school season, with a capsule collection curated by the famous duo called “Mad Picks.”
  • American Rag Plus Size Collection: A line extension for American Rag, this collection will feature plus size pieces ranging from 0X-3X and 14W-24W for the girl who craves fashionable and trendy clothing, designed for her body type.
  • Jenni in Juniors: Juniors is about to receive an exciting new lifestyle extension of its Jenni Intimates brand that will include activewear and fashion pieces. The Jenni girl is a fashionista who has her own style and loves color. She is independent and confident but still wants to be comfortable.

New Celebrity Clothing Collections for Juniors at Macy’s

  • Jessica Simpson: Singer, actress and designer Jessica Simpson is extending her current Jessica Simpson collection from shoes, handbags and jewelry, to ready-to-wear items for juniors.
  • Material Girl: “Material Girl” is a newly created, fast-fashion junior collection that will launch exclusively in approximately 200 Macy’s stores and online at macys.com on August 3, 2010 for the back-to-school season. The “Material Girl” collection was inspired and designed in collaboration with Madonna and her daughter Lola and is for the spontaneous and fearless individual who invents her own fashion trends and is never afraid to make a bold, creative statement.
  • Kouture by Kimora: Celebrity fashion designer Kimora Lee Simmons recently launched a new line – Kouture by Kimora – exclusively at 300 Macy’s stores nationwide. Geared toward the global juniors consumer, Kouture by Kimora offers chic fashions aimed at the budget fashionista and provides body-loving looks with all the eye-catching embellishments and fabrications of today’s trends.
