Helping Millennials Move Mountains

Tru Access Blog - Helping Millennials Move Mountains

Exactly how big is a mustard seed? I only ask because I read somewhere that if you have faith the size of a mustard seed that you can move mountains. I googled the size of a mustard and it turns out that a mustard seed is only about 1 or 2mm in diameter. We should see a whole lot of mountains floating up and down the street. Looking closer, there are more mountains being moved than we think.

We all have our own mountains to climb. We have our individual mountains and each generation also has collective mountains to overcome. Millennial mountains are clearly jobs, debt and affordable education.

The natural inclination to conquer a mountain is to climb over it. Based on the statement above, however, moving it also seems to be a viable option. You can also go through it. Each option simply requires the right tools. If you have been struggling with conquering your mountain you may just need to take a different approach. You also have to make sure you’re using the right tools. There are a number of ways to determine what the best tools are to conquering your mountains. One of the best ways is to ask someone that’s already conquered the same mountain.

The mountains aren’t any different than they’ve ever been. What changes with each generation are the culture, the environment and the tools necessary to conquer those mountains.

To help our next generation of leaders continue to move these mountains of unemployment, debt and education, we have to share. We have to share our journeys of success. We have to share our tools and we have to share our faith!

It is critical that millennials believe in themselves, and many of them do. So we’re off to a good start there. Having a great support system and knowing that others believe in you also helps people to perform better. How much we believe in someone directly affects how we behave towards him or her. If you believe the millennials in your life are lazy and entitled, chances are your treating them that way.

Stop feeding the stereotype monster people. Show a little faith. These Millennial Mountains are heavy enough as it is. They don’t need anyone else adding on the additional weight of discouragement.
