Forget Cyber Monday! The Best Online Deals Are Happening Now
On the surface, today is just an ordinary day. It doesn’t carry with it a clever or distinct moniker. In fact, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Small Business Saturday are all in this holiday shopping season’s rear view mirror. But that doesn’t mean the best deals of the season have actually come and gone.
It’s the age of eCommerce. And in the waning days of the winter holiday season, the deals available online are comparable or even superior to those found during the aforementioned retail events that littered the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Unfortunately for the brick-and-mortar retailers that pulled out all the stops last month on Black Friday, expectations for a 3 percent year-over-year increase in sales weren’t realized. Instead, the industry posted what some have called an “anemic” 1.9 percent increase.
Cyber Monday, however, told a different story. Sales spiked 17.5 percent on Cyber Monday compared with last year, according to IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark. Other industry sources actually reported eCommerce sales to be up by more than 20% over Cyber Monday 2012.

“Consumers are still getting used to the idea of purchasing things on their phones,” says Jay Henderson, strategy director at IBM. “We saw something similar with online shopping, but the growth is being fueled by people who are purchasing online for the first time.”
By all accounts, consumers have discovered the potential for unparalleled bargain hunting online. And many are now coming to realize that Cyber Monday is merely the start, not the end, of the season’s best bargains.
In 2013, the hottest gifts of the season – iPhone 5s, Xbox One, PS4, and a handful of other top-tier portable electronics and gadgets – are new products this year. And so we won’t see deep discounts on these items in the coming days. But so much attention has been directed toward such a small handful of products that retailers are now pulling out their hair trying to get shoppers to remember the broad array of toys, video games, clothes, and older electronics that also make exquisite gifts.
Nowhere is this reality more apparent than in the HDTV department. As the industry gears up for a new generation of flat-screen smart TVs to make their grand debut at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show, there has arguably never been a better time in the history of home entertainment to purchase fantastic TVs at unbeatable prices.
All told, the hottest holiday sales remain just a few clicks away, as a plethora of major retailers are still cutting prices (and even offering free shipping on the smallest of orders) in hopes of winning your last-minute business. So if your shopping list isn’t yet satisfied, don’t fret. Just don’t spend most of your time bargain hunting in stores. You’re now in the homestretch of the holidays. And you don’t need to stray much further than your home screen to find everything you’re still looking for this year.
