It was the Fourth of July and everyone was in a festive mood. The night was supposed to wrap up in a very moving, patriotic and joyful atmosphere with the background of a breathtaking fireworks display. But alas, the much-awaited finale of the event ended in a very big disappointment… at least for the ones present in the San Diego Bay area during this year’s Independence Day.

Celebrities like Ellen Degeneres and Incubus’ vocalist Brandon Boyd expressed their dismay over the fireworks mishap. They ridiculed what happened at the Bay over their respective Twitter accounts. Degeneres tweeted

“ like my kind of show… a big opening, and everyone’s in bed by 8:30”.

Incubus front man Boyd on the other hand even shared a photo via Instagram of the supposed fireworks fiasco. He added,

“ I swear this has never happened before”,

followed by the captured image.

The fireworks show was supposed to be a twenty-minute display of glitter in the air. Unfortunately, it only lasted less than half of a minute. It was planned to be a twenty-minute spectacle that exploded all at once in just fifteen seconds. The technical glitch is being blamed for what happened. As per Garden State Fireworks they pointed out that the incident was not the fault of the pyrotechnics but mainly on the setting of the timer. It was supposed to be launched in fifteen seconds but ended up launching all fireworks within the set time. It was originally billed as “Big Bay Boom” which instantly became Big Bay Bust.

Aside from Degeneres and Boyd, other celebrities also voiced out their sentiments about the disappointing show over interactive media website Twitter. The Ready Set musician Jordan Witzigreuter had a bit of regret not seeing the show in person posting:

“Wish I could have seen that San Diego fireworks show last night. Nine seconds of party.”

B.J. Novak who plays Ryan Howard in The Office also posted:

“Obsessed with this San Diego fireworks thing. Can’t get over how promising it must have seemed!”

John Legend’s fiancée and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Christine Teigen had a big laugh at her account tweeting

“Hahahahhaah San Diego accidentally set off all the fireworks in their annual show ALL AT ONCE. Lasted seconds. Wa-waaaaaa.”

It became a trending topic on Twitter and created a lot of confusion over its awaiting spectators. Fashion model and consultant Jennifer Boyd asked,

“ Was that it?”

Music producer Josh Damigo wrote

“Anyone know if that was on purpose?” adding, “It sure seems like something went wrong!”

It added more embarrassment when the music that was supposed to be played along with the fireworks display kept playing on even after the bust. Some of the songs that were heard were Born in the USA, Proud to be American, songs by Taylor Swift and other songs that has America in them. The organizers of the show, the Port of San Diego, as well as the event’s producers are taking a deeper look at what happened and are currently conducting an investigation. It was indeed an unforgettable Independence Day as expected.
