The Sales Pitch: Smaller, Lighter, Longer Battery Life

The GoPro Hero3+ Black is the latest version, 20% smaller and lighter than the regular GoPro Hero3. It includes a new SuperViewTM video mode that GoPro claims to be the world’s most immersive wide angle perspective, and has an Auto Low Light mode that allows for low light shooting. The Hero3+ Black also boasts 30% longer battery life, 4x faster Wi-Fi, and a sharper lens. It’s also waterproof up to 131 feet.

Of course, this doesn’t come cheap. Typically going for the retail price of $399.99, the GoPro Hero might be out of your price range.

Types of Hacks

You can find the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition in stores for the full retail price at several big-box retailers, including Best Buy, Academy Sports, Bass Pro Shops, and the Apple Store.

ShopHack, however, will help you get the best price by “hacking” to end up with bigger savings when buying the GoPro online. The hacks include various actions you can take to get the discounts–the most rewarding deals tend to include signing up for store memberships or using certain store or credit cards.

Membership Cards

For the deal at REI, for instance, sign up for an REI Visa card by the last day of 2013, and you will get a $100 gift card after your first purchase for use within 60 days. Now if you make the purchase with your REI membership, you get another 10% refund and an additional 5% off as a perk for using the REI Visa. The final price comes to $239.96, with a savings of $159.99

If you go to Backcountry.com through Mr. Rebates, you’ll get 12% cash back. The potential savings ranges from $24 to $48.

Like going on Mr. Rebates, the Discover Card hack involves cash back options as the means for you to save. Clicking on the Shop Discover link on the Discover Card website will help you find cash back bonus deals when you use your Discover card at several retailers who carry the GoPro camera: Apple Store (5%), Bass Pro Shops (5%), Backcountry (10%) and LLBean (5%).

Store Credit and Free Gifts

Other hacks are more about store credit, like Cabela’s which offers $75 in Cabela’s Buks if you order the GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition between now and Christmas Day. Still other hacks involve free gifts like the 32GB Micro SD card ($32.99 value) that comes with the camera order when ordered from Calumet Photo online. t the regular price and receive a 32GB Micro SD card ($32.99 value).

The advantage to the hacks, though, is the stacking. At LLBean, you can get a $10 gift card and free shipping for anything before Dec. 24. Now if you have a Discover card on top of that, combine this with it and you’ve got a savings of $30.

Just remember: The best GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition deals for the holidays won’t last forever. You can’t find a black edition on a lot of retailer’s web sites – Target and Walmart to name two – apparently because they’ve already sold out!
