We all want to ‘wow’ and impress our clients when we visit them while we’re out on the road. Pulling out a tablet computer used to be enough to elicit that great response but my view is that today you should always be aiming to leave the most memorable impression possible. What better way then by extracting a portable projector from your briefcase at your next client meeting and running them through a presentation. I think this would certainly make for a memorable meeting, especially if they weren’t expecting it!
I love my technology and have been impressed with where the portable projector industry has come in just the past few years. I remember seeing my first ever data projector, it was the size of guitar amplifier and just as heavy. Luckily now we have powerful portable projectors that can also be used in most lighting situations.
Top 10 Portable Projectors for the Road Warrior
1. 3M Streaming Projector – SPR1000
This miniscule projector manages to deliver! It is tiny and I mean really tiny. You could carry this in a coat pocket if you wanted to and pull it out to surprise clients. Yet it projects a screen that is quite large. It’ll take up an entire wall if you let it.
It seems technology is getting smaller everywhere, will products like this put an end to giant flat screen LCD TV’s? I doubt it just yet, but this is so nice to take to any room in your office with a blank wall and watch your presentations.

The ViewSonic PJD5123 Projector is an effective and economical solution for PowerPoint presentations while on the road. Projecting from 25′ it creates a bright 8′ wide image. I connect it to a laptop with Bose Companion 2 Series II computer speakers creating an exceptional audio video experience.
Coupled with a wireless mouse to control presentations you will give the perfect pitch. You may need a case for the projector and possibly a longer video cable than the standard 6′ cable provided. A great unit with low noise.

6. ViewSonic PJD5523w Projector – HDMI, 2700 Lumens, 3000:1
We use this projector at work for medical/scientific presentations, it is a great price, very bright, projects very well. If you are looking to project movies or basic PowerPoint slides with graphs etc, this does a perfect job, but if you are trying to show subtle changes in detailed images of faces etc, you probably need to spend a little bit more money.
The speaker is audible over the somewhat louder-than-normal fan that outputs more hot air than most other portable projectors I have reviewed.

Where this projector shines is with the use of an HDMI cable. If you want an HD presentation, you’ve got it. You’ll be impressed with the output and will want to go out of your way to use this data projector.
The sound is OK for a projector at the price range, you probably will want to put something beefier on the source to give you better sound. Image clarity is amazing on a flat white wall, I have to assume a screen would be even better. It comes with a nice padded case.

Overall you will be happy with this projector. It has adequate Lumens and good color depth. The internal speaker will work in a room with up to about 20 or 30 people.
9. Optoma PK320 Pico Pocket Projector
For it’s diminutive size the output is actually pretty bright, though you probably will need to dim the lights a little. The battery lasts as advertised, which is about 45 minutes. It gets pretty hot while running so make sure it has plenty of ventilation. You can put a video on an SD Card, insert it into the unit and it’ll play from there.
It is a fantastic unit and I highly recommend it. It meets the needs of a business traveler for PowerPoint and video presentations.

You will love this little projector. It comes with every thing you need to get started; except for an HDMI cable; along with a nice carrying case for portability.
