Don’t Play Down to the Browns’ Level Today, Giants

QB Brandon Weeden QB Brandon Weeden will try to lead Cleveland to their first win this season

The Giants need to play like they are playing Houston today. Don’t play down to the level of the competition. In this case the winless Cleveland Browns. The Browns come into this contest 0-4, but have showed signs of life with every passing week. QB Brandon Weeden actually looked like a professional quarterback ten days ago against Baltimore. The Giants need come out firing, something they didn’t do against Tampa and several times the last two years against inferior teams at home. Come out and get up 14-0 and the Browns will fold. Keep them in the game, and anything can happen in the 4th.

What to look for from the Giants – The Giants are fighting a ton of injuries. Guys have to step up today and the load on Eli Manning’s shoulders becomes even greater. Without the talents of WR Ramses Barden and WR Hakeem Nicks, look for the Giants to establish a running game today. That’s where they’re healthy. On the defensive side of the ball, the Giants are not short of the walking wounded. Out today are DT Rocky Bernard, CB Jayron Hosley, S Kenny Phillips, and LB Keith Rivers. The Giants defense needs to pressure Brandon Weeden and knock him around. Put eight in the box and challenge him.

What to look for from the Browns – The Browns will look to attack the Giants secondary with all the injuries. Weeden, the 28 year old rookie, has improved from week to week. He’ll be looking for WR Greg Little who leads the team with 11 receptions. The Browns are not without their injury woes, as starting WR Mohamed Massaquoi and WR Travis Benjamin will sit out today. This is turning into the IR game. Trent Richardson should see a heavy dose of carries today, but his mind may be elsewhere as his girlfriend is in labor.

Prediction – Despite all the injuries in this game, the Giants should control the tempo and win easily. This never seems to go as planned. The Giants are obviously the more talented and experienced team, but until they can show they can dominate in this type of situation it is hard to make a case for a blowout. The Browns have nothing to lose, and that can be dangerous. This game will not be pretty. The Browns keep in striking distance, but come up short.
