Why Your Business Needs to Be On Instagram

It is no surprise that Facebook bought Instagram because the growth in smart phones, new users of video and photo apps, and time spent using these apps is blasting off into the stratosphere. You need to ensure that your business reaches these huge audiences.

It is not simply the number of smartphones that matters though – it is that photo and video apps have surpassed music as what users are spending their time doing. That is hard to imagine – since you can listen to music while doing other things – but have to be 100% engaged when sharing and viewing photos.

Time spent in photo and video apps grew by 89%
between Oct 2011 and March 2012

Music only grew by 72%

Between June 2011 and Sept 2012, Instragram users jumped from 5 million to 100 million and it is estimated that they are seeing 10 million downloads per month. These stats point out a huge change in where people spend their time and what they’re interested in seeing.

If you want your business to thrive you MUST be where
they are and be effective at getting their attention.

When you use Instagram for your business you will want to make sure your time is spent effectively.  Instagram provides basic stats through their Statigram Instragram Statistics that show you who is following you and sharing your content.

  1. Hi Angela,

Thanks for sharing these links to tips on how non-profits can benefit from using Instagram. I’m definitely going to check out pinstagram and I’m sure I’ll be writing more about Instagram in future posts. I’ve saved your links to include them.

If you ever want to do a guest post on Instagram for non-profits for Growmap do let me know? I’ve published guest posts on pinterest for non-profits but none so far on Instagram for them. My posts from that site are syndicated on Twitter so your guest post would receive at least 27-30 retweets from other bloggers – some of whom have 40-50,000 followers.
