Oxfam Trailwalker is a global phenomenon which started as a training exercise for the Gurkha Regiment in Hong Kong in 1981. Today the Trailwalker has 15 events in 12 countries that walk to raise funds for poverty eradication. Teams of 4 are required to walk (or run) 100 kms in 48 hours, exemplifying team spirit, endurance and dedication towards a cause. You can donate to a team for contributing to their cause or you can register your own team and raise funds.
The Oxfam India Trailwalker will be held this January on the 25-27, trailing the rural parts of Bengaluru starting from Pearl valley to Anekal and Bidadi. Teams with exciting names like ‘The Bond Girls’, ‘Serendipity’, ‘Speedy Turtles’, ‘Knight Walkers’ and more have formed and already raised funds to the tune of lakhs. Team Sole sisters is leading with Rs.1,36,030.

Social media buzz
Oxfam India Trailwalker 2013 (OITW 2013) has been creating buzz for the event through popular social networks too. On the one hand, there are enticing images of the upcoming trail and places it will cover, while on the other hand, there is the spirit of competition riding high.
The Facebook page is a steady stream of updates introducing the cause, the teams, the trail map, etc. Actor Rahul Bose, who has been associated with Oxfam India since six years is also featuring in posters and a video interview talking about his association and experience with the Trailwalker events.
Photographs from the practice walk at the trainings have also been shared in addition to featuring the various team members and the amount raised by them. The Twitter page is also buzzing around with event details similar to Facebook. However, the YouTube channel has not yet put up content for OITW 2013.
