Social Media 2012: Mayanspace, Anyone?

Social media. Where would we be without it? I’ll tell you where – nowhere. It has become our lifeline. It’s how we find out the latest news, gossip and updates on our friends and family. Since it’s become such a big part of our lives it only makes sense that we want to know what’s been going on with our favorite social sites. This infographic presented by The SEO Company highlights the biggest changes in social media for 2012.

Let’s start with the biggest of them all, Facebook. In January of 2012 Facebook integrated the timeline into users profiles. In March they launched Messenger for Windows giving Windows 7 users access to the feature without having to use a browser. And the coupe de grace, in May the Facebook IPO opens at $38/share.

In January, Pinterest was named Best New Startup of 2011 and referred more site traffic than Linkedin, YouTube, and Google+. Who would have thought a virtual pinboard would make it so far?

Google+ doesn’t seem to be faring as well as the others though. Besides President Obama using G+ Hangouts to perform the first all-virtual interview with U.S citizens, G+ hasn’t been keeping up with the rest of ‘em. Maybe things will look up for them in 2013.

As for the future of social media, well, it’s not going anywhere. Social apps banking will continue to grow in the mobile world and the SoCoMo (Social Media Cloud) will be unstoppable and ultimately changes how we do business.

Check out the infographic below to find out more about the state of your favorite social media websites.
