College football fans will notice something different about Mississippi State’s north end zone during the football game between rivals Mississippi State and University of Mississippi on Saturday, Nov. 26. MSU’s end zone has been hashtagged with the words “Hail State,” which is the school’s traditional rallying cry and fight song.
For those who don’t know, hashtags are used on Twitter to connect you with other users interested in the same topic. Using hashtags in your Twitter posts also help you get retweeted and help marketers know which topics are relevant.
By putting a hashtag on their end zone, Mississippi State is hoping to create a firestorm of football tweets by allowing anyone using the hashtag #HAILSTATE to see what other fans are saying about the game. They’re also the first team to use an on-field hashtag in college football history.
Whether the inclusion of a hashtag and its subsequent press will create greater interaction and more excitement about the game is yet to be seen. On to the bigger question: Who do you want to win the game? Mississippi State or Ole Miss? Be sure to tweet about it – and don’t forget that hashtag!
