As I work with businesses and non-profits I hear a lot of horror stories about ways in which some marketers, agencies, SEO, and social media consultants have approached them. Promises are made, many of which are just too good to be true. Many small businesses, in particular, know that they need to beef up their online presence, and perhaps jump into Social Media. What they don’t know is how to do that, and as a result, they are easy prey and will believe anyone who seems to know what they are talking about. This doesn’t mean that the business owners are stupid. On the contrary, it just shows the importance of educating yourself and shopping around.

Caveat emptor – let the buyer beware.

Sadly, there are a slew of folks out there who prey upon businesses with promises that are just that:  too good to be true. I recently read a post from Catherine Lockey about 6 Ripoff Dead Giveaways and began to think about this more. I guess in any business sector there are those who try to take advantage of businesses who just don’t know any better.
