We’ve all heard the arguments from Clay Shirky that Social Media helps us be free and helped the arab spring/other anti-tyrannical moments in history, but the 10 billion minutes we spend a day could go towards working towards real causes, like the Zapatista movement, or another social movement, versus a movement that does nothing but as all the emotional weight as if they are actually doing something.

We’d like to think Social Media will help us get outside of Dunbar’s Number, yet it does not. National parks are dying and I doubt kids spending 8 hours a day on smartphone/tablet helps very much.
