Social media brings SEO benefits for brand owners. There are lots of ways this is true but in this article I am considering just the benefits for brand awareness – and the matter of competition.
The easiest way to be found by prospects on Google is for those potential customers to be searching for you by name. Generally, when they search for your brand name or your company name, you will be assured of a high position in the search results.
However, what if your brand name competes with lots of others? There could be lots of companies with a similar name to yours or lots of products, pop groups, movies etc. that rank well for your brand.
Social media gives you more of the search results
If you have managed to successfully carry your brand across your social media accounts, you will stand a better chance of being found on Google and Bing. You will take up more of the ranking results. The last thing you want is for a potential customer to know they are looking for you, only to land on another company’s website.

All of the results at the top of Google, except one, link to web pages that are controlled by Red Rocket Media. While we agree we have an unusual name, it would not be great if there were several brands occupying the top of the results.
As Red Rocket Media has a presence on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, SlideShare, Google Plus and Pinterest, it’s easy to find us.
