If you have a website that isn’t performing as well as you’d like but you don’t have the budget to hire a marketing company to do your SEO, this post is for you. The following three SEO tactics can be completed by just about anyone and the latter two don’t even require you to make any changes to your website.
As a disclaimer, though, I feel it’s important to point out that there are technical aspects of your website that can inhibit its ability to rank well, regardless of anything else you may do. Hiring a professional SEO company is always a good idea, even if it’s just to analyze your existing site and make recommendations. That being said, the following are tactics that any SEO company would recommend, assuming you haven’t already done them.
Your copy (the text on every web page) should include the words that your ideal visitors are typing into the search engines when they’re looking for websites like yours.

For example, if you’re a dentist, you should obviously include the word “dentist” on your website, but also more specific terms that potential customers might be searching, like “cosmetic dentistry”, “sedation dentistry”, or “dental implants”.
If you’re a local business with a physical address, it’s a great idea to include your city in your website copy when you can. So, “dentist office in greenwood village” might be a good keyword for a dentist with an office in Greenwood Village.
Warning: don’t overuse keywords. Put them wherever they sound natural only.
Claim Your Online Business Listings
If your company has been around for a while, chances are good it’s already been added to various places on the web, like Yelp and YellowPages. Claiming your business listing on these sites will often give you the chance to put your website on the profile. The more links to your website you have, the more Google likes your site, and the more traffic you’re likely to receive.
If your business isn’t already listed, it’s often easy to add them after a quick registration process. You may need to verify your business but the extra work is well worth the added benefits.
Get a Google+
Creating a Google+ page for your business has numerous benefits. For example, because reviews from your Google+ page can show up in the search results, it can be a great place to direct customers to rate your business.
Social media sites like Google+ can also be great places to connect with your customers. Give them an incentive to follow you, by posting social media-exclusive coupons, for example, and you can create an invaluable community of loyal fans.
These three tactics can have a beneficial effect on your site’s rankings and organic search traffic by themselves but, of course, they only scratch the surface of what an SEO can do for you. Remember that SEO is a discipline like any other; professionals have spent a lot of time learning about the intricacies of the field and have a wealth of experience. It probably isn’t realistic for you to spend the time to become a professional SEO since you’re already running a business, but these few essential SEO tactics can be done on your own without taking up a whole lot of your valuable time.
