Critical Minute – Let Them Eat Cake

Wedding season is upon us and as brides and grooms make last minute decisions, plans get changed and stress grows, the beast known as the Bridezilla awakens from winter hibernation.

The now nationally recognized term for a high maintenance bride was coined by WeTV ten years ago for their comedic reality show, “Bridezillas,” that follows stressed-out brides to be on their wedding planning process.

In a creative move to generate some buzz about the show’s 10th season, WeTV held a cake-eating contest, hosted by Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, where the Bridezilla who ate the most cake in five minutes was awarded $10,000.

Though the event was not advertised to the public, the press coverage spanned blogs, television, social media, and more, largely due to Snooki’s fan following along with with the comical image of 10 women in wedding gowns with their faces buried in a three-tier wedding cake.
