This is one of my favorite questions and one of my favorite tools to use. When I am out speaking across the country, I often talk about ways to discover content ideas. When were working with our clients its one of the areas we have to focus on from brainstorming, keyword research, and how do we come up with a bunch of content ideas. Especially for businesses that say they have a boring business, or I am a XYZ business, what would I write about? How could I make it interesting?
So one of the things we like to start with is going to the answer sites. So there’s Quora, Answers.com, you can even use LinkedIn’s question and answering feature, and of course, the big daddy is Yahoo! Answers. They have millions of questions and answers already there. There’s thousands being added probably every hour. In fact I did a search for one of my presentations on hiking boots, and just the phrase hiking boots came up with more than 1600 results in Yahoo! Answers. This is people out there asking related questions to hiking boots. So what we recommend from an internet marketing standpoint is go to these sites, enter in your strategic, your core, and your money phrases. See what people are asking about and even see what type of answers they are getting. One is you can certainly participate right there, but the other thing is just to start getting ideas about the kinds of questions that people are asking about your industry, your products, your services and develop content that answers those questions.
