Over 6 million LinkedIn passwords were posted on a hacking forum last week, prompting the company to ask users to change their passwords in a press release on their blog and through other means. LinkedIn did not email people but this could be because that would look like a phishing attempt, further eroding trust in the troubled social network. But they responded quickly and firmly, and this helped prevent a PR disaster from turning into a PR catastrophe.
