To coincide with this year’s Wimbledon Tennis Championships, Unibet brings you a new and exciting infographic charting the emerging impact Twitter has on the sport and featuring eight of the world’s most iconic tennis stars – Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka and Caroline Wozniacki. For the first time, you can now see how the Twitter profiles of the likes of Rafa Nadal and Andy Murray match up against their on and off-court earnings, further highlighting the growing role that social media plays in the world of top level international sport.
Whilst the majority of players use Twitter sensibly, and give their followers a glimpse into their fabulous lives, it has also been used to bring controversy into the game. The Ukraine’s Sergiy Stakhovsky was so enraged by an umpire’s call during the French Open in May this year that he decided to take matters into his own hands. Told his shot was out, Stakhovsky used his iPhone to photograph the mark left in the clay by the ball to prove that the ball was in. He insisted that Hawk-Eye – a computer system used in tennis and cricket to track the ball’s trajectory and used to aid in the adjudication process – had made an error, but he eventually lost the match and was fined £1,500 should be euros for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Unibet’s easy to follow infographic allows you the opportunity to compare various tennis players to see which offer the best ‘value for money’. It also gives information as to what the betting markets are like and who is predicted to be overall winner. Our charts let you see who is watching their fellow players, which tournaments and stars have the most followers and what percentage of our positive and negative sentiments each of the eight have.
