Eat Greens
Chocolate is my kryptonite. If I have a chocolate bar at my desk, it will be gone in no time. Sometimes, I don’t even remember tasting it.
Working at your desk with junk food in the proximity is a bad combination. You can get so busy with what you are working on, you don’t even realize you just plowed through a bag of chips.
One of the problems bloggers face is that it is easier to just to eat something quick at your desk instead of taking time to cook something up. To confound matters, you brain craves junk food when you are tired and hungry.
Instead of reaching for that second chocolate bar or another handful of chips, give yourself a serving of veggies. Slice up come cucumbers, carrots and celery each morning. Be prepared for when your munchies strike. You have something that is easy – yet healthy – to eat while working.
Remember to stay away from the fatty dressings and dips. Hummus or a few slices of cheese could add some extra flavour without adding unnecessary calories.
Fresh Air
If you have a long night of work ahead of you, don’t use your break to set a new record for most cheese puffs consumed in ten minutes.
Slip outside for some fresh air. The much needed oxygen will fire up your brain and your blood will start flowing from a nice brisk walk. You might get some inspiration from the great outdoors, so bring along a tape recorder or notepad.
Workspace
Another way to get you and your caboose out of your office chair is to move some of your everyday office supplies around the house. Store your daily calendar by your car keys in the foyer, your phone directory in your bedroom or printer paper down in the basement.
Be creative and remember that whenever you use something, put it back in the original place. This exercise will force you to move around and give you a little break from your desk.
Stay Fit
Staying fit will benefit you in the long run. It may cost you some extra moments per day because of veggie preparation or brisk walks outside; but in the long run, you will have more energy and a clearer mind. Your body was not designed to be parked in an office chair for hours on end. It needs to stretch and move. Plus, it needs the right fuel. Your body cannot run off cheese puffs, chocolate and stale air.
Do you have any health tips for bloggers who spend large blocks of time at their desks?
