Hamish McWhirter is a senior designer and social media strategist for the agency Halo. Halo designs all types of media, including Facebook apps and websites for folks like Russell Brand, the antipasti brand Bodega and more. They also create awesome integrated advertising campaigns for their clients.
Since Hamish is ShortStack pro, we asked him to share with us some of his most recent ShortStack-built apps. Below are the Facebook contests Halo has created for two of their clients, and the results of each. Here’s what Hamish told us:
Contest: We did a photo voting app for a small UK cosmetics company called BeautyUK. We ran a competition called “Paint for Life,” which was aimed at raising awareness for cancer amongst females by encouraging girls to paint their nails pink during Paint for Life Week.
We then asked entrants to submit a photo which was entered into a voting system and the public then voted on their favorite photos with the winner receiving £250 BeautyUK makeup.
Results: The competition and voting ran for 20 days. In that period, we got about 1,000 extra followers during the entry stage and then a further 2,500 during the voting stage.
Contest: For the brand Simply Sausages, we created a Facebook contest called the “Perfect Sausage Competition.” To enter, the user has to describe their own recipe for what they would consider to be the perfect sausage.
The prize consists of a travel allowance to get to London where the winner will get the opportunity to create their own sausage recipe with Martin Heap, the butcher behind Simply Sausages. Winners also receive a dinner for two at the Rivington Greenwich and an overnight stay at Devonport House followed by a full English breakfast.
We have also created a very simple second app for Simply Sausages that, when Liked, gives fans access to a free interactive pdf recipe book.
Results: Since starting the campaign two and half weeks ago with zero Page Likes, Simply Sausage now has nearly 2,000 Facebook fans.
