7 Questions on Social Media With Ian Cleary
1. How did you get your start in the industry?
I was working in the technology industry with a startup and we were acquired by a larger corporate. The money I got from this allowed me to take a risk and start our own company. I was asked to give a presentation on social media and at the time I knew very little about it but I never refuse a challenge. It was the right decision to do that presentation.
2. What is the biggest challenge facing your industry?
Our focus is on Social Media Tools. Too many of the tools operate on a free or freemium model and there are far many tools. A lot of social media tool providers will go out of business.
3. What is the method to your blogging success? What inspires your blogs?
I answer all the questions that my audience has and optimize my content for Google. Traffic from Google increases on a daily based on we’re getting traffic on every post. Without a strategy for organic traffic from Google it’s difficult for companies to rapidly grow their traffic.
I have also focused on building relationships with other influential bloggers. I do this online but also go to meet them at events. You network is your net worth!
4. What do you think is the future of social media?
The future of social media is bright. We’re still at a relatively early stage and we have a long way to go. More and more money will be diverted from traditional advertising and social media will, over time, start taking the bulk of marketing budgets.
5. What advice would you give to someone who is just starting out?
Pick your niche wisely. We picked a niche of Social Media Tools and we have become the global leaders in this area in a short time frame. It’s very difficult to stand out online if you don’t have a niche that you can own. Think about what you can be the worlds best in!
6. Where can we find you on the web/on Twitter/Facebook/etc.?
7. What do you think is the most important takeaway from your session?
Using the right social media tools in the right way will have huge benefits to your business. You will save time and money and become much more effective.
