So you want to know how to triple your leads with content marketing? Well who doesn’t. Leads are a salesman’s dream. They mean you don’t have to do the hard sell and you can concentrate on people who actually want your product or service. Content marketing can definitely help you increase your leads but you need to put the effort in, to see the results.

The key is to create content that speaks to your followers, so much so that they want to share it with their friends. The more people that see your stuff, the more likely it is that people will come to you. Check out these 5 simple rules to follow when it comes to creating content that will bring in more leads….

1. Research your audience

Don’t make the mistake of creating the same kind of content as everyone else. Yes it’s good to take a look at what your competitors are doing, but you need to stand apart from the crowd. Firstly, check out your audience and find out what they like sharing on the web.

Do they share more videos than anything else? Maybe they prefer more detailed content like e-books? Whatever it is, you need to research your audience ahead of anything else. If they do prefer one piece of content ahead of another then focus your marketing on that. Don’t think that you have to create every type of content to increase leads.

2. Choose your content type

There are various different types of content that you can create, and like I mentioned above, it needs to something that speaks to your audience. If you don’t have a blog then get one. Videos are a great way to boost your leads and get those shares up. The key to getting more leads from a video is to make it topical, fun and useful so more people share it. Don’t think that you have to create a video that goes on about your product either. Take our Wimbledon videos for example. We decided to come up with a few fun facts about Wimbledon, and post it during the matches so it brought more attention to our brand.

E-books are a great tool to offer a more in depth resource for your customers. You can entice people to sign up to your emails by offering them a free e-book and you’ll get a bunch of free leads that will be interested in your product before you know it!

3. Make it shareable

The secret to getting more leads is to make your content shareable. The more people that see your content, the more likely it is that they will come to you. This isn’t as easy as you’d think. It really depends what you are selling, but people tend to share things that they find fun and useful.

So how do you achieve this? Well you need to convince them that you are the expert in what you do. Big brands are so successful because they have built up trust with the audience and that’s exactly what you can do with your content. People love to see stats about the subjects they care about, so if can you provide insightful information in your content then you are more likely to get shares.

This is a reason why infographics are so shareable is that they are full of stats, and they look really good.

4. Include CTA’s

This sounds like a bit of an obvious one, but it shouldn’t be overlooked. The only way you are going to get leads is if you add a call to action on your content. It doesn’t have to be ‘in your face’ if you don’t want it to be. Just make sure you include your logo so people know who you are, and a point of contact, so they know where to go once they have seen your content.

5. Do some networking

Once you have your content all ready to go, it’s time for you to get it published. Your first port of call is clearly all of your social media channels, but once you’ve exhausted those and boosted all of your posts, where do you go from there? That’s where networking comes in…

There are many people out there who are ‘social media influencers’ with a ton of followers interested in your product. And many offer the opportunity to post your content for you, so all of their followers see it. Put some research in and find out bloggers who post about the topics that are relevant to you, then drop them an email and see if they are interested in posting your stuff. When it comes to blog posts, you will tend to find that they will offer guest posting, but it will need to be exclusive to them. This may seem like hard work, but when you get over 1000 shares on one post, it’s definitely worth it.

Google+ or Linkedin are both great places to find social media influencers. Link your blog posts, videos and infographics in communities and remember to comment on other posts – this will build your following and help you become noticeable to others.
